The Oklahoma Legislature has officially adjourned “sine die”. Here’s a countdown of the 5 Biggest Wins this year for your business, and the real estate industry at the Legislature this year:

Number 5: For the fifth consecutive year, none of the bills Oklahoma REALTORS® opposed became lawAdvocacy isn’t just about passing good legislation; it’s about stopping harmful ideas before they impact property owners, businesses, and communities.

Number 4: Senate Bill 2139 continues Oklahoma’s effort to remove racially discriminatory covenants from public records. Previous legislation from Oklahoma REALTORS® declared those covenants unenforceable, and created a process for them to be removed from deeds. This bill creates a uniform and expedited process for counties and municipalities to remove them from plats and official documents entirely. It’s the third of a series of practical steps that help ensure our property records reflect the values of modern Oklahoma.

Number 3: Senate Bill 2072 strengthens protections for victims of deed fraud and title theft. This new law allows victims to file quiet title orders and restore ownership of their property without paying filing fees to correct fraudulent claims. This legislation helps ensure those being affected by deed theft don’t have to spend more money to regain property that was rightfully theirs to begin with.

Number 2: Lawmakers approved a major investment in Oklahoma’s water and wastewater infrastructure within Senate Bill 1177. This creates a low-interest financing program to help cities and towns improve critical water and wastewater infrastructure at a lower cost to taxpayers and residents. Infrastructure investments will remain a key priority for Oklahoma REALTORS® because reliable infrastructure is essential for economic growth, housing development, and long-term community investment. This legislation is a great win that helps position Oklahoma for a future that includes population and business growth.

Number 1: House Bill 3781 delivered one of the most significant insurance reforms Oklahoma has seen in years. Insurance companies must now submit rate changes to the Insurance Commissioner before those rates take effect, giving the Commissioner more authority to review rates. This new law creates more transparency, stronger oversight, and greater accountability in a market where rising insurance costs continue to affect homeowners across our state. Oklahoma REALTORS® will continue to seek additional insurance improvements to stem the tide of rising costs.

You can hear more from the Insurance Commissioner candidates at NonDoc’s Insurance Commissioner Debate, Presented by Oklahoma REALTORS®, held on June 8 in Oklahoma City. This event is an opportunity to hear directly from candidates before Primary Elections on June 16. Space is limited so register here to see the debate in person. The debate will be live-streamed on the News 9 Facebook and YouTube pages, the News on 6 Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as NonDoc’s Facebook page.

At Oklahoma REALTORS®, advocacy is about more than politics: it’s about protecting property ownership, supporting communities, and helping create an Oklahoma where people can live, work, and invest with confidence.

Thanks for staying engaged, and thank you for being a REALTOR®.
